This Opportunity

FPA is currently searching for a full-time Senior Staff Engineer in our Bridge department at our Boston, MA office.

As a member of FPAs Bridge Department, you will be part of a dynamic team of industry professionals, operating in a fast-paced, competitive environment. The ideal candidate will be able to integrate quickly with the team and provide detail-oriented and organized support to aid the departments ongoing activities and pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and support the design and analysis of bridge structures, including conceptual design, detailed design, and load-rating analysis using industry-standard software and methods.
  2. Assist in the management of bridge design projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with client specifications, codes, and regulations.
  3. Provide technical guidance and recommendations to junior engineers and support the development of innovative design solutions that meet project objectives.
  4. Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the design meets their needs and expectations, and provide technical support throughout project phases.
  5. Review design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  6. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, civil, and environmental engineers, to deliver integrated solutions for bridge projects.
  7. Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, and evolving regulations to ensure designs are innovative and compliant with the latest standards.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Masters degree in Structural or Bridge Engineering is a plus.
  2. 2 to 4 years of experience in bridge design and engineering, with a focus on transportation infrastructure projects.
  3. Proficiency in bridge design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, LARSA, or similar), as well as a strong understanding of AASHTO, local, and international design codes and standards.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a demonstrated ability to address complex engineering challenges.
  6. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
