Job Title: Teacher - Emergency Medical Technician Instructor Terms of Employment: 10-month (210 Day) FLSA Status: Exempt Work Location: Richmond Technical Center Immediate Supervisor: School PrincipalGeneral Description: The EMT CTE Instructor will teach and train high school students in the fundamental skillsand knowledge required for entry-level positions as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Instruction will emphasize hands-on skill development, safety practices, and real-world applications. The EMT program also includes Dual Enrollment courses, requiringthe instructor to meet the qualifications necessary to teach in this capacity. Thecurriculum covers core topics such as anatomy and physiology, patient assessment,medical emergencies, trauma response, CPR, first aid, and professional ethics. The EMTprogram also includes related courses such as Emergency Medical Responder,Emergency Medical Telecommunication, and other related health science courses.Integrated throughout are employability skills and preparation for industry-recognized certifications, such as the National Registry EMT (NREMT).Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Employs a wide variety of teaching methods designed to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability within a class. Develops lesson plans, organizes teaching materials, creates assessments, provides laboratory instruction, and delivers instruction aligned with the course curriculum. Coordinates all aspects of the EMT program including scheduling, program logistics and curriculum updates. Secures field experiences, clinical rotations, and internship opportunities for students in partnership with local EMS agencies, hospitals, and fire departments. Ensures compliance with the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), adhering to state and national regulations, including those established by the NationalRegistry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Collaborates with school administration, healthcare facilities, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with program requirements and regulations. Maintains accurate records of student attendance, skills, and performance in accordance with state-approved competency evaluation programs. Maintains current and comprehensive curricula, utilizing appropriate methods to assess student performance in the classroom and laboratory, ensuring alignment with state standards and industry best practices. Prepares a syllabus for each assigned course which meets VDOE content requirements. Ensures students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully obtain state certification and effectively prepare for employment as Emergency Medical Technicians. Serves as an advisor for HOSA, a student-led future health professionals' organization. Participates in on-going professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance. Maintains confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia professional teaching license with an endorsement in Emergency Medical Technician. Must hold certification as an Education Coordinator, in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). A minimum of two years of field experience as an emergency medical technician within the past five years is required.
